ACTION FOR BOSTON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

BOSTON AFTER SCHOOL AND BEYOND

Boston After School & Beyond (Boston Beyond) was formed in 2004 as the successor to Boston After-school for all Partnership and the Boston 2:00-to-6:00 After-School Initiative. BOSTON CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

On July 1, 2002, the City of Boston's human service functions were merged into a new department called the Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF). BOSTON CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

The Boston Children's Museum exists to help children understand and enjoy the world in which they live. As an early museum experience for children, the environment is informal, but the purpose is serious. The museum wants children to grow up feeling secure and self-confident with respect for others and the natural world. Boston Children's Museum encourages imagination, curiosity, questioning, and realism. BOSTON COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS FOR CHILDREN

BOSTON CONNECTS

A school-community-university partnership linking the Cluster Five Boston Public Elementary Schools, the YMCA and other community partners, and Boston College to coordinate resources to serve over 3,200 school children and families. http://www.bc.edu/bostonconnects

BOSTON MAIN STREETS

The Boston Main Streets program focuses its efforts on providing merchants and community residents with the tools for their historic commercial districts to compete in today’s market.  The Main Streets program helps the local districts capitalize on their unique cultural and historic assets while focusing on the community’s economic development needs. http://www.cityofboston.gov.

BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER

Boston Medical Center provides a full spectrum of pediatric and adult care services from primary to family medicine advanced specialty care. Boston Medical also has the largest 24-hour Level 1 trauma center in New England. http://www.bmc.org/

BOSTON PARENTS ORGANIZING NETWORK

The Boston Parent Organizing Network (BPON) supports and advocates for the improvement of the Boston Public Schools.  Every day, parents, and community members are getting involved at every level, from meeting with a child’s teacher to helping shape major policy decisions. http://www.bpon.org/

BOSTON PARTNERS IN EDUCATION

Boston Partners in Education is a catalyst for community involvement in education.  Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education has for 39 years partnered with the Boston Public Schools to support student achievement and advancement in all grades K-12, by bringing to bear on the greater Boston community the skills and dedication of volunteers from across the city.  http://www.bostonpartners.org/

BOSTON PUBLIC HEALTH COMMISSION

The nation’s first health department and traces it’s roots back to 1799 when Paul Revere was named the first health officer.  Back then the board of health was formed to fight a potential outbreak of cholera.  Two hundred years later, that tradition continues through the Boston Public Health Commission. http://www.bphc.org/

BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY

Established in 1848, the BPL was the first publicly supported municipal library in America, the first public library to lend a book, the first to have a branch library and the first to have a children’s room. Today, the BPL boasts 27 neighborhood branches, free Internet access, two unique restaurants, an award-winning website and an online store featuring reproductions of the BPL’s priceless photographs and artwork. http://www.bpl.org/

BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS

BOSTON TEACHER'S UNION

The Boston Teachers Union is committed in continuing its effort to reach out to parents and community groups. During this school year the Boston Teachers Union has instituted an innovated new program, Homework Helpers. BOSTNET

For the past 18 years, Build the Out-of-School Time Network (BOSTnet) has been working with parents, providers and policymakers to build out-of-school time opportunities for children, youth and families. In December of 2004 BOSTnet, formerly Parents United for Child Care, adopted its new name to reflect its focus and expertise in the field of out-of-school time. http://www.bostnet.org/

CHILDCARE CHOICES OF BOSTON

Child Care Choices of Boston (CCCB) is the Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (CCRA) for Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop, Revere and Brookline. As a CCRA, Child Care Choices of Boston provides and maintains a key role in making child care work for everyone, regardless of cultural, linguistic or ethnic background. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL BOSTON

Children's Hospital Boston is a 325-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. The Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts (FNC) is a unique learning organization that has been called "small, but mighty" by many who know it. HEALTH CARE FOR ALL

Health Care For All is dedicated to making quality and affordable health care  accessible to everyone in Massachusetts.  The organization seeks to educate Massachusetts residents about the health care system and encourage them to join Health Care for All in changing it. http://www.hcfama.org/

JUMPSTART

Jumpstart is a national non-profit early education organization that combats the rising trend of preschoolers in low-income communities entering school without the skills needed to succeed. The program operates 57 sites throughout the nation, each supervised by a highly skilled site manager. MA OFFICE OF CHILDCARE SERVICES

OCCS is a new approach to childcare and early education in Massachusetts. MAYOR'S OFFICE OF NEW BOSTONIANS

READBOSTON

For nearly a decade ReadBoston has been driven by its mission to have children in Boston reading on grade level by the time they complete third grade. Founded by Mayor Thomas M. Urban PRIDE is a community resource center founded to improve the availability of and access to culturally responsive disability related support, information, and training for culturally and linguistically diverse families who have children with disabilities and young adults with disabilities in urban Boston. WGBH EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
