Countdown to Kindergarten provides transition
information sessions for providers as well as parent groups each Fall.
The purpose of these sessions is two-fold:
- To integrate Countdown's transition activities
within provider communities by helping early childhood educators (ECE)
and providers learn and adopt ways to effectively communicate with their
families about the importance of kindergarten and the steps needed for a
smooth transition, including information on visiting, choosing and
registering for kindergarten in the Boston Public Schools.
- To gather input from early care providers
and parent groups to improve the usefulness of Countdown, as well as
further document programs and activities taking place within Boston's
larger early care community to prepare children and their families for
the transition into the Boston Public Schools and to share best
practices among providers.
Training Credit: Countdown to Kindergarten
worked with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) to provide
1.5 In-Service Training Hours to ECE professionals who attend the
transition trainings held for providers.
