Play to Learn Playgroups bring together parents, children and an early childhood professional to build a community of peers for support, foster nurturing behaviors, help families access needed services, and model developmentally appropriate practice. Hosted in our public schools, playgroups help schools to be community resources – in which parents are welcome and to which they can turn for needed supports.
Play to Learn Playgroups:
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities for children and expose parents to such activities
- Facilitate social networking and reduce isolation for families
- Connect families to community resources such as Early Intervention, ESL classes, WIC, job information libraries, and available programs offered in the host school
- Introduce families to the Boston Public Schools so they can make informed choices about where to send their children to school
Each week, the two hour playgroup session includes:
- Educational play
- Circle time
- Snack
- Time to share information about resources and activities
- Gross motor and sensory play
- Goodbye circle
- ReadBoston’s Reading Trail lending library
